Filed under stories that did not get written: For HEARTBEAT, we considered a feature on Francois Morel, who has been hand-making bird calls since 1980. In the end, we commissioned a different feature on the history of mechanical birdsong, but I remain charmed and beguiled by these. Each one is a little sonic sculpture.
