
Feeling trepidation at the news that the Met is subsuming the Neue Galerie, esp. because the Neue Galerie shop is one of the rare NYC retail spots that truly deserves the adjective fabulous: it's the place to find Gustav Klimt's painting smock, Eva Zeisel's porcelain baby feeder, Freudian sunglasses, an exacting selection of German-language literature in translation, passementerie key fobs, and even the golden thread of life (aka the most luxurious mending kit). The museum, often described as a jewel-box, is a gem + the cafe a delight. Once can only hope the the Met knows well enough to leave it all alone ...
