In the public school lunchrooms of my Ohio childhood, right near the register sat a basket full of Saran-wrapped "peanut butter bars," a tame name for what was essentially a Reese's peanut butter cup on steroids: a layer of crackly chocolate, thin or thick depending on the mood of the maker, topping a blend of butter, peanut butter, and sugar. A few years ago I found a recipe for them on Reddit (others included graham crackers: incorrect), made up a batch, and was teleported back in time. V. good option for parties + cookie swaps; dangerous to have a whole panful in the house, though.
That's my crummy picture above; I made them the way I remembered, with a hefty peanut butter to chocolate ratio, but it would be easy to adjust.
